School counselling staff are members of the school learning and support team.
A teacher may recommend the service by referring a student to the school’s learning and support team. As a parent or carer, you may refer your child directly to the school counselling service. Students can also self-refer to the service.
The school counselling service can:
- support students who are worrying about school work, friends, getting in trouble at school or feeling down
- help parents and carers make decisions about your child’s education
- assess a student’s learning and behaviour
- help teachers and students identify and address disabilities that may affect learning
- liaise with other agencies regarding student wellbeing.
School counselling is confidential.
For more information about learning and support teams and the school counselling service, please contact your school.
School counsellor
A message from our school’s counsellor Michelle Madden.
My work at schools can be summarised by the following:
- Consultation with parents / carergivers, the Principal, teachers, and external agencies and professionals to support student wellbeing and educational needs of students.
- Work collaboratively with the school's learning support team, teachers and specialist staff within the school.
- Individual or small group councelling sessions.
- Assess students with specific learning or social and emotional needs which may include cognitive assessments (IQ tests).
I am always happy to talk with parents and carers about their children and any aspect of my role. It is always a good idea to flag any concerns with your child's teacher as a first point of call. Sometimes I will suggest alternative solutions to parents and students.
I am here at Emu Plains Public School every Monday and Friday. Please contact the school office to organise an appointment.
