About our school

In keeping with its mission statement, "our children, our future", the school is working towards a future where children can grow up secure in a safe environment.

Towards this end, the school is endeavouring to develop and maintain a culture of caring within a framework of accountability. Aspects of the school's curriculum which reflect this cultural perspective include: our integration program which has seen children with disabilities involved in the life of the school; our peer support program which underpins the development of attitudes of tolerance and respect for diversity among our students; and our varied co-curricular activities which enable all our students to develop their talents in areas such as music, art, dance and sport. Through curriculum offerings such as these the school is developing an ethos among our students where there is respect for individual rights and acceptance of individual responsibility.

Emu Plains Public School was officially opened by Sir Henry Parkes, Premier of New South Wales, in August 1877.

It was originally situated on two acres of land on the Great Western Highway and was made of sandstone from the mountain quarries.

Robert Campbell was the first teacher appointed on the 4th August, 1877. By the end of 1877 the school had an enrolment of 90 students. In 1907 another classroom was constructed to accommodate 60 children and the old classroom was turned into a hat room.

Electricity reached Emu School in 1934 and in 1950 the name changed to Emu Plains Public School.

With the development of the suburb of Emu Plains and growing numbers the school was moved to our current site in Emerald Street in 1967.
