How to enrol
If you live in our intake area and would like to apply to enrol at our school, start by submitting an online enrolment application. Online enrolment is currently only available for Australian or New Zealand citizens and permanent residents.
If you are not able to apply online or you prefer not to, download the paper application to enrol (PDF 768.4KB) form. Please complete the form in English. A translated application to enrol may help you do this.
Online enrolment can also be used for out-of-area enrolment. Please note that out-of-area enrolment procedures are subject to the department’s enrolment policy.

Distance education
Distance education is an equity program for students who are geographically isolated or whose individual circumstances prevent them from regularly attending school. Students must meet one of the conditions in the Distance Education Enrolment Procedures to be eligible to access this program as a full-time student.

Enroling into Emu Plains Public School
All children residing within the Emu Plains intake zone are entitled to enrolment. The intake zone is within the area boarded by the Nepean River, the railway line and the M4 motorway. A map of the school's boundaries is displayed in the main school office.
Applications for enrolment may be discussed with the principal or executive staff. However, an application will not be considered until it has been received in writing. Documented evidence of date of birth, proof of residence and immunisation status must also be provided with the application form.
A school placement panel consisting of the school executive makes decisions in relation to applications for non-local enrolment.
All recommendations and decisions will be made by the enrolment panel within the context of "Enrolment of Students in Government Schools: A Summary and Consolidation of Policy" (August 1997).
Ceiling enrolment
The ceiling enrolment of this school is based on the number of available permanent classrooms. At the present time with the current staffing formula, this ceiling is 440 children.
Enrolment buffer
An enrolment buffer of twenty students has been determined to guarantee a place for local zone enrolments throughout the school year.
Placement panel
The placement panel comprises of the principal and executive staff. The panel meets as required (but at least once per year) and delegates the day to day decision making regarding enrolments to the principal.
Non-local enrolment applications
Families are entitled to make an application for non-local enrolment at Emu Plains Public School, on the appropriate form, if they feel they have exceptional circumstances. Criteria for consideration of non-local enrolments includes:
- safe access to the school
- siblings already enrolled at the school
- safety and supervision of the student before and after school
- compassionate reasons.
The panel will consider applications and notify the family within ten school days of receipt of application.
Kindergarten enrolments
Children may be enrolled in Kindergarten at the beginning of the school year if they turn five years of age on or before 31 July in that year.
Documentation providing proof of age, such as a birth certificate or passport, is required on enrolment. Documentary proof of residence is also required.
Parents are also required to provide documented evidence of a child's immunisation status on enrolment. Where parents have exercised their right not to have their child vaccinated, in the event of an outbreak of vaccine preventable disease, unimmunised children will be required to remain at home for the duration of the outbreak.
Enrolment in particular circumstances
Students being presented for enrolment in particular circumstance require individual consideration. These circumstances include enrolment of students with disabilities, non-Australian citizens, new arrivals and early enrolment of gifted and talented students. In these circumstances the following procedure will be followed:
An initial enrolment interview will be scheduled with the principal to outline the circumstances and determine documentation which may be required.
Following the initial interview, the principal will refer to appropriate departmental policies and seek further advice as considered necessary. In the case of students with disabilities, the district integration advisor will be consulted and assessments arranged to determine support needs.
Submissions for support will be completed in consultation with parents and departmental personnel.
The principal will keep the parents informed of the progress of the application.
Whilst it is the school's desire to process all applications for enrolment in particular circumstances as quickly as possible, the guiding principal of achieving a successful and appropriate enrolment will be paramount.
Transfer applications
Local students from other government and non-government school, interstate and New Zealand may be enrolled at this school subject to relevant departmental policies.
When transferring to or from another NSW government school a student transfer certificate must be presented. If this certificate is not present, the previous school will be contacted before the enrolment is accepted.
Short term and part-time attendance
Students may only be enrolled at one school at any given time. Some circumstances necessitate attendance at another school for a temporary enrolment for example family illness or a specialist program.
Where attendance is for a period no more than one term or special placement of no greater than 2.5 days per week, the student will not be enrolled, but be regarded as being on a short term attendance. The student's enrolled school will be notified of details of attendance.
Appeals
Appeals regarding enrolment decisions may be made in writing to the principal. The appeal will be referred to the Director of Schools for determination.
